This is the hike into the hut. It was deep powder and we were cutting our own tracks the whole way. Overall I think we climbed over 6,000 feet on the trip, but all of the pictures I took were when it was flat!
This is the blue lakes hut we stayed in; a five mile ski in.
We just got back last night from the sweetest trip! We went with our friend Miles to a hut in the San Juan Mnts in Colorado. He happened to have two extra pairs of telemark skis that fit us perfectly and so we took off for a three day ski trip (not to mention he brought all the ingredients for homemade sushi!). It was amazing! The snow was deep and perfect, the hut cozy and adorable and the sking was incredible. We both learned a lot (and managed a few connected tele turns)and have officially been bitten by the tele-ski bug. We worked ourselves like crazy and summited several ridges and had phenomenal runs through the trees and deep powder. There wasn't even a sign of anyone else.

Did you see any lynx tracks? I just read an article in Backpacker magazine that was talking about how they're recruiting people that stay in those huts to report lynx sightings and tracks.
I'd love to live in Colorado - we could live there for residency but it would have to be in Denver.
This looks like such an amazing trip! I'll work on Pete's ski legs and perhaps we can all go skiing together sometime!
