Invincible Winter

In the midst of summer (okay spring. . .) I found there lived (in spite of me) an invicible winter. I have been ITCHing to get up in the peaks since we first got here, so Brian agreed to try and climb the Middle Teton with me on Monday (despite two very early alpine starts and having skied the Lower Saddle of the Grand a few days before-- what a hottie). Van (a paramedic Ranger) and Sven joined us. It snowed 5 inches by 4:00am when we got up Monday, but it was still an epic trip. The above photo is Van while on the ascent.

Due to unsafe avalanche conditions on the Middle, we attempted the South instead-- got almost to the summit but had to stop just short for the same reason. This is us before heading down.

Excited Sven.

I don't think summer exists here. I've given up and given in.

Larry's Canyon; Robber's Roost

About two weeks ago (it feelsl like months) I decided to take a group of ladies down Larry's Canyon near the Maze district of Canyonlands. Mary and Brad met up with us for one more desert jaunt before heading to Jackson, WY. We've been here (in the Tetons) a week now and it is AMAZING. Our cabin is so beautiful and our bedroom window looks right out on Cottonwood creek. We are right below Teewinot mnt. and the wildlife here is crazy-- Bison, Elk, Moose, eagles, hawks, martens, deer etc. We actually watched a HUGE falcon land in our front yard and catch a gopher (a Uinta ground squirrel-- but they are gopher size) in it's talons. Wowzers. We also have wildlife frequenting our house and have managed to catch 8 mice so far. The weather has been warm and sunny lately so almost all the snow is melted around the house and little yellow flowers are popping up. Last night we hiked up Blacktail butte to watch the sunset over the peaks. I've managed to stay busy cleaning like a madwoman-- scrubbing floors and bleaching every log in the cabin. No pictures yet, but I'll post some soon. Here is more of Larry's Canyon:
