Everything's under control

Daily Herald - 24 March 2010

“Let me get this straight. We’re trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn’t understand it, passed by a congress that hasn’t read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also is exempt from it and hasn’t read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes, all to be overseenby a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that’s broke.” Tom Trinnaman, Pleasant Grove, Utah

This isn't really a political statement from me or anything, but I did think this was telling. I don't know enough about the new "health care reform law" to make an informed decision, but I'm extremely curious how it will translate for every-day folk like myself.

I also find it ironic that the gov has been so gung-ho that "EVERYONE MUST HAVE HEALTHCARE" when (hello!!) Brian and I have been working for them for two years now and they have managed to weasle out of giving us benefits by calling us seasonal employees (despite being employeed for 23 of those 24 months) and making every appointment a few hours short of requiring healthcare. Hmmmmm.

dear diary. . .

I've been on a blogging hiatus lately. The Island has been so beautiful lately! Everything is looking brilliant green and I could just hug daylight savings time-- I love having the longer days.

Last week we went to Tucson, AZ for Brian's grandmother's funeral. It was a bittersweet occasion; it was nice to see everyone on that side of the family and reunite, but also sad to say "goodbye" to grandma Hays. It was a long (albeit beautiful) drive down and back but Matt and Sarah were great company.

Speaking of company, the day after we got back from AZ my friend Melody (from the mission) and her boyfriend came into town. It was great to see them! They stayed until Thursday and even got engaged while visiting. Friday Lindsey and her five BYU friends stayed with us for the half marathon. After the marathon (yesterday) we all went climbing- SO FUN!

Today Ben Cooper arrived to chill with us and climb with Brian tomorrow and Tuesday. They are going to complete a first ascent (hopefully) tomorrow here at Cany. Pretty sweet.

Anyway, I started my job. Its a soul-sucker, but what-ev. A girls gotta do what she has to do.

This post is like an email.

Get Dream Job . . .

check.
Brian was offered the Jenny Lake Climbing Ranger job at the Tetons this summer. Now we'll get to work between the two places we love best: Canyonlands and the Tetons.

Producerism

This winter I've realized something about myself: I'm not happy unless I'm producing; whether its food, art, a healthier body (excersize), cleaner house . . . etc. My latest kick was entering the Moab Farmers' Market poster contest. The prize is $100 and the fee waived for vending (I'm hoping they'll save mine for a few years). The voting is on March 13th or 14th.

I also found out today that I am hired by CNHA (Canyonlands Natural History Association) to work Tues, Wed, Thurs until we leave for the Tetons and I start next week. Which couldn't be more perfect.

This post is a tribute

to the greatest running mix ever created. With spring in the air and my new running shoes on the way I am so psyched to get out and play! But I haven't actually created the greatest running mix of all time. I have granted myself $15 in I-tunes to buy these rockin' tunes and so far the only thing I've got is "Single Ladies (put a ring on it)" because who can't help jive to a little Beyonce?

Suggestions?
