Don't hate because its frio

I love this picture of B and me. It was taken on Valentines Day (so appropriate) when we went for a Sunday stroll to the knob.

Las ladies: these chicas were my heart and soul over presidents day weekend. They even indulged me in painting at Corona Arch, making homemade BBQ sauce and playing Settlers.

The product of our creative genius. Wondering why the heck mine is of Castleton Tower in the dark when we were at Corona Arch in the daytime? Yeah, me too.

If you're wondering what we're doing, ask the dude behind us.

I have been doing this a lot lately. We skied out on Shafer bench to watch the sunrise and drink cocoa. We also all went skiing (Brian and Matt too) Presidents Day in honor of Abraham Linchon up in the La Sal mountains. It was so sweet. And thanks to Leslie and the folks at ISKY I got to go two other times in the La Sals last week.
I love winter. I really do.

For your Reading Rainbow pleasure

My favorite Reading Rainbow episode of all time is the one where Lavar teaches you how make cheese. On the rare occasion I recieved a bag of potato chips as a child, I remember inventing an entire facotry and playing through the process in my mind of making a single chip. And since I've always appreicated a good process (esp when it pertains to food) and since pomegranate juice is a whopping $18 a quart and since posting a process seems like such a blog-y thing to do, here is how its done:

First, get a bunch of poms free from CA (Brian's mom gave us two boxes full)

Then, seed them all in a bucket of water. Aren't they beautiful?

Then blend them in the blender (this is my favorite part-- so cool).

Strain the pulpy mass through a cheese cloth (or an old curtain in this case).

And voila! A half gallon of juice that only took 2.5 hrs to produce. A small price to pay when you live in a single room miles from town all by yourself all day and no job. Uh . . . see ya.

Shreddin like Shroder*

Brian and I got back from an awesome time in the Tetons last Friday night. We LOVE the Tetons. I lived on the Idaho side for about a year and he spent a summer on the Wyoming side working for the park service. . . that place is magic.

We stayed with Brian's friend from the Tetons, Ryan Lynch in Driggs for a few days, then headed over to Jackson to stay with Alex and Michelle from Rocky for a few days, then stayed in a yurt for one night and then on to Grandma's in Idaho Falls! Out of the 8 days we were there, we skiied 7 of them (my burning thighs finally got a rest on Sunday) in deep powder-- it snowed 5 feet while we were there. In the words of the Bro-bra ski bums of Jackson, "shreddin' the pow-pow was super gnar" (translation: sking the powder was awesome).

After hiking up Glory peak-- the summit of the Grand is sticking up behind me. We hiked up and skiied this twice and it was incredible.

Below is Alex skinning up. To get up the mountain you put skins on the bottom of your skis (like carpet) so that you can move up the snow. We climbed a LOT of verticle. Sheesh.

Brian almost to the top of 25 short (named for being 25' short of 10,000)

I spy something brown; the moose we passed while on our way up:

You can spot Bry in a puff of powder making some sick turns:

Me making a tele-turn

Brian and Alex in front of Buck Mountain (btw this photo doesn't really do Alex justice).

Looking through the skylight in the yurt we stayed in (thank goodness it was only one night. . . it was cold and too big to heat up)!

Last run of the trip

*Shroder Baker is a professional skier. We all watched videos of Shroder shreddin' it so we could dream of being that good.
