Cannon sureshot

I haven't been taking pictures, so I'll paint a mental image for you:

Misty clouds and rain; HIGH water on the snake river-- paddling class IV rapids. Watching yellow Tanegers (sp?) and white pelicans fly overhead. Hit some serious white water. Then hit some more. Then get to the big one with 20ft waves. Be really happy. Eat a nasty hoggie from the KOA because you're starving (with Miracle Whip--ewww). Say a prayer of thanks for Neoprene and not flipping the raft.

Later that day: Hiking through grassy meadows, the Tetons white capped in the distance are pink and yellow from the setting sun. Ford a freezing stream. Climb a hill toward steam and find a beautiful natural hot pool. Soak for hours. Watch the sun set and laugh. . . a lot. . .because you're with funny people. Hike back at twilight. Spot a very large bear on the trail ahead of you. The very large bear spots you too and stares. Feel that good scared/anxious feeling and grab hold of taller boy (who is also cute and awesome husband). Say a prayer of thanks for being in a group of four (bears don't attack groups of four). Eat canned peaches, granola and milk and fall asleep.

Wake up in the morning to sunshine. Look outside and see the Aspen's leaves are glowing and the creek (20ft away) is nearly flooded. Watch the clouds move over Teewinot. See a herd of elk and several moose. Say a prayer of thanks for sunshine and bless your husband who is dangling below a helicopter by a 50ft rope today as he's flown onto a mountain.

I love your writing. Who needs a camera, anyway?

Wow, even with the riverguiding job I have, I am super jealous. The more I read your blog the more I want to become a Park Ranger! :D

Woah, so was that work or play you described? It sounded like it could be either. Glad you had that cute taller boy to protect you from the bear (in addition to the two other making your 4-group). Sounds like your life is never boring. P.S. Love the writing with mental imagery. I actually liked it better than a picture (in this case) because it was a moving picture as you described the various scenes.
