About 15 years ago the park re-routed a portion of the hwy that runs below the peaks. We had heard from Allison (Brian's mom) about an old White Bark pine tree that the old hwy passed and was famously called the Matriarch. We went out last week to find it and it was everything that an old tree should be. Twisted, huge, baring lightning scars and beautiful. I almost started chanting. . .

You are so emo. Can you call me "The Matriarch" now? kthanks
I always thought it was called the Patriarch, but now, I'm voting for it to be called the Matriarch--way cooler!
